View of the whole castle

The Napoleonic (Napoleon III) architecture of the castle and the importance of the latter in the village comes from the mining industry. This building was the first one to be built in the village, just before the main residence of the directors. And as industrialisation progressed to reach the number of 4,500 inhabitants, the residence became administrative, opening a training school at the same time. Afterthat, the directors and ingeniors' houses were built around the main residence of the National Coal Board.
